History and background
Mandarins, originating from Southeast Asia, have a rich history that spans over a million years, with significant cultural and agricultural importance in various regions. Mandarins (Citrus reticulata) are believed to have existed in China and other parts of East and Southeast Asia for more than 1,000,000 years. They were domesticated around the foothills of China’s Nanling Mountains, where wild mandarins can still be found today. The earliest evidence of cultivation dates back about 4,000 years, with records indicating that mandarins were gifted to Emperor Yu the Great around 2200 BC. Mandarins fist reached the West around 1805 when diplomatic missions to China brought trees back to England. From there, they were propagated and made their way to Italy for cultivation.
General Use
These 100% natural dried mandarin slices are ideal for garnishing gin or other cocktails, distilling, baking and food decorations, crafting into scented wreaths and much more. As with Orange Slices, they can be used for the same purposes. However, whole slices tend to be used where a decorative effect is required.
Increasingly, they are being used by bars, pubs, hotels and restaurants to decorate drinks and cocktails.

FAQs
The shelf life can vary. Always refer to the best-before-date on the label. In general, if they’re stored correctly, they can last up to two to three years.
Ideally, you will want to store these in an airtight container that is kept in a dry and cool place. This can help keep the humidity out and ensure that they last as long as possible.
You can use these for a number of things that include, but aren’t limited to, drink decorations, baking and food decorations, tea and mulled drink infusions, and fragranced products for the house, such as potpourri.
They have a number of advantages over fresh slices, including longevity, convenience and aesthetics. They can look even more appealing than fresh slices, giving the beverage a ‘rustic’ look. Many establishments prefer them as they require less preparation than fresh mandarins, are easier to handle and ultimately reduce food waste.
Absolutely – they’re often added to potpourri mixes. If you love the aroma of orange or citrus fruits, you’ll love our dried slices.
You can expect about 350 to 380 slices per 1kg
