Plantain leaf has a rich history of oral and topical medicinal use, particularly for the treatment of skin ailments. It often grows as ‘weed’ in gardens but the leaves and seeds are edible. It must however not be confused with the banana-like fruit called plantain that is found in tropical climates.

Uses of Plantain Leaves Cut

It is said that horses will seek out the leaves of plantain when they feel digestive discomfort. It has been used for impacted digestion and for internal hemorrhaging.

Plantain leaves have antiseptic properties and are often used topically to promote the healing of damaged skin, reduce inflammation, stop bleeding and reduce pain. It is used to sooth sunburns or insect bites. The leaves and seeds are edible and the leaves can be used to make a tea.
