Related to the humble daisy and ragweed, milk thistle first appeared in Europe but arrived on US shores along with colonists. Now, it can be found across the continent, as well as in Africa, Australia and Asia. Often simply called ‘silymarin’ after its active ingredient, milk thistle is also known as blessed milk thistle, Mediterranean milk thistle, Mary thistle, Saint Mary’s thistle, Marian thistle, Scotch thistle and variegated thistle.

Uses of Milk Thistle Seed Powder

Milk thistle seeds can promote healthy liver function in horses as well as humans. Animals suffering from the likes of laminitis and allergies can benefit from taking milk thistle as a dietary supplement, and it can help horses recover more effectively from illness or exercise.

Milk thistle is believed to have a ‘cleansing’ effect on the liver. Past research has looked at the possibility that milk thistle can improve insulin resistance as well as lowering cholesterol levels.
