Gentian root has a wide variety of uses in traditional medicine and is also used as a bitter flavouring for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. It was used by the Ancient Greeks to treat digestive tract issues. Today it’s used in a number of herbal remedies.

Uses of Gentian Root Cut

It is believed that gentian helps improve digestive, liver and gallbladder function. It could also help to reduce inflammation and pain, help treat wounds and infections and support the nervous system. The root can be made into pills, teas, tinctures and extracts.

Gentian root has a distinctively bitter taste and is used to flavour a wide range of drinks, including beer. In Bavaria, they distil famous Schnaps from the root. In North America, they add it to a traditional soda recipe called Moxie. It’s also found in Aperol and Angostura. It’s also used in the gin distillation process.
