Description

Leonurus cardiaca, known as motherwort, is an herbaceous perennial plant in the mint family, Lamiaceae. Other common names include throw-wort, lion’s ear, and lion’s tail. Originally from Central Asia and southeastern Europe, it is now found worldwide, spread largely due to its use as a herbal remedy. The plant itself grows up to 1m in height, with the above-ground parts of the plant used for medicinal purposes.

Uses of Motherwort Herb Cut

Motherwort Herb Cut (Latin name Leonurus cardiaca) purportedly boasts anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and has been promoted as a treatment that prevents or stops bleeding, as well as a remedy for menopause symptoms, wound healing and high blood pressure. It has been claimed that motherwort can also help treat a wide range of other ailments and conditions. The ancient Greeks used it to reduce anxiety during childbirth. Motherwort herb cut is commonly consumed as a loose-leaf tea. The bitter taste of the plant is often offset with honey, sugar, lemon, ginger - or other strong-flavoured ingredients. Alongside tea, motherwort can be consumed as a tincture or in capsule form.
