As well as being one of the best natural dyes for textiles, you can infuse it for several weeks in your soap recipe oil. Infusing it offers a very very delicate shade of pink and you can achieve a better colour by adding it to your dye. It is even used to dye cricket balls. Alizarin, the main dying component of the root, also yields yellow and brown colours. For those looking to move away from synthetic dyes and looking for colours across the red range, madder root is perfect.
