Typically found growing in acidic soils across Europe, heather is an evergreen shrub which dominates heathland and moorland areas all over the continent. It’s also found in Asia Minor and parts of North America. It’s long been associated with Scotland, and its name is believed to have originated from the Scottish term haeddre, meaning heathland.
