Sour cherries, also known as tart or pie cherries, are versatile and can be used in a variety of sweet and savoury dishes. They are commonly used in pies, jams, and sauces, but also work well in savoury dishes like pork dishes, salsas, and even barbeque sauces. Additionally, they can be enjoyed in drinks like cocktails and liqueurs, or as a topping for yogurt and oatmeal.

Uses of Cherries Sour Slices Freeze Dried

Dried sour cherries hold their shape when cooked and lend a tangy flavour to dishes. Use them in everything from sweet pastries and brownies to savoury meatballs and salads.

Sour cherries, also known as tart cherries, offer a variety of health benefits due to their rich antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. They are commonly consumed as juice, dried fruit, or in baked goods and can be beneficial for muscle recovery, sleep, arthritis, gout, and potentially even brain health.

Sour cherries, particularly Morello cherries, are frequently used in distilling, most notably to produce cherry brandy, or kirsch, and other liqueurs. The process often involves pressing the cherries, fermenting the juice, and then distilling the resulting liquid, sometimes with the inclusion of cracked pits to impart almond-like notes.

Freeze-dried sour cherries are a nutrient-dense food, offering a good source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They retain a high percentage of their original nutritional value compared to fresh cherries, including fibre and phytochemicals. A 100g serving typically contains around 351 kcal, 5.7g of protein, 63.1g of carbohydrates (primarily sugars), and 3.2g of fat. They are also a source of Vitamin C and potassium.
