Basil is a widely used herb in many cuisines but is also used in folk medicine practices or traditional Chinese medicine.

Commonly used in cooking, rubbed basil is the most frequently used herb and is important to Italian cuisine.

Basil leaves have high levels of vitamins and minerals and can have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal properties to help fight stress and diseases. It is thought that the antioxidants and oils in this plant can help combat free radical damage. Basil may help the body adapt to stress and normalise the harmful effects due to it acting as a natural adaptogen.
